Films Division will join the nation in celebrating the 74th Independence Day with a 3-day Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Film Festival, showcasing a package of 20 documentary films on freedom struggle and freedom fighters. The film festival will be screened on Films Division website and YouTube channel from 15 to 17 August, 2021.
The Film Festival is organised as a part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, a unique initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of its people, culture and achievements. Select documentaries on watershed moments in the freedom struggle starting with India's first war of independence in 1857, dawn of Gandhian era, call for Purna Swaraj, the great Salt March, Kala Paani and on merger of princely states after independence will be screened in the festival.
The golden moment of independence dawned on India due to the invaluable contributions by millions of freedom fighters, both known and unknown. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Film Festival will pay homage to a few of them by screening biopics of Subhash Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad, Birsa Munda, Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaq Ulla Khan, Baba Shahmal Jat, Dr. Gopinath Bordoloi, Bagha Jatin, Matangini Hazra, Bankimchandra and a film dedicated to another set of unknown freedom fighters including Hanawant Sahai, Pandit Jayanandan Jha, Siva Gurunathan, Shantaram Vakil and Marimuthu Chettiar. ‘Gandhi Rediscovered’, a film that discusses the Gandhian concept of Swadeshi as a tool of social change in the current scenario is another highlight of the festival.
